Melody, an accomplished, award winning art-to-wear designer, and I, wanted to try creating a garment together. That collaboration resulted in A Crazy Walk in the Garden. The name was partly inspired by the fact that the whole front panel is a crazy patch of every fabric manipulation and embellishment we could create.

The front wedge panel gives the perfect canvas to employ numerous fabric manipulation techniques. There is scrunching, couching, undulating twin needle stitching, candling (melting and burning) of synthetic organza, grid puffing, cross hatch tucking, and decorative stitching. Embroidered circles, squiggles and scrolls were created on a computer and then stitched using a Bernina embroidery machine. Dimensional embroidered lace leaves and beading give additional depth and textural interest.

Embroidery motifs from a Bernina Martha Pullen card were combined in Artista computer software, then stitched around the entire bottom of the skirt. More beading and lace leaves were added for dimension. The top, with it's sheer back, was enhanced with custom combined embroidery and beading. The entire garment was fashioned from a soft butter colored silk dupioni and organza.
